The Business Owner Perspectives: Insights from America’s Economic Engine module is based on research done by MassMutual in 2015 about the thoughts and feelings of business owners in the general population. The module will cover the seven key pillars of business planning and describe the reality of where most business owners are in the planning process. Their plans, or lack thereof, are an opportunity for SCORE mentors to help them build a more financially secure future. This module will take approximately 10-12 minutes to complete.

The online learning module, Business Owner Perspectives: A Look at Diversity in Business Ownership, is based on research done by MassMutual in 2011. The module covers the thoughts and feelings of business owners from the Hispanic, African American, Asian Indian, Chinese, and Korean cultures. This window into the business realities and priorities of these culturally diverse groups of business owners is an opportunity for SCORE mentors to better understand and provide more tailored quality service to clients.

This module will take approximately 8-10 minutes to complete.

This module provides an overview of each chapter of the workshop of Simple Steps for Exiting Your Business. The workshop was developed in FY17 and is available to chapters for use as a local workshop. The module will familiarize learners with the topics of the workshop, succession planning, retirement planning, and estate planning and why this information is important for small business owners.

PLANNING FOR SUCCESS: HOW TO USE THE BUSINESS MODEL CANVAS AND BUSINESS PLANS introduces participants to the concept of the business model canvas and how and when it might be used instead of or in addition to traditional business plans (marketing, financial, or a full, traditional business plan).

This was recorded at the 2017 Volunteer Virtual Conference. 

SCORE mentors can help their clients validate their business concepts using the Business Model Canvas developed by Strategizer as explored in VirtCon 2017. BMC provides a manageable way to plan their launch. The two most important elements in BMC are the Value Proposition and Customer Segments. V2 explores how to help your clients formalize their model and then validate it before moving beyond these key elements with additional investment of time and resources.
